Камандор ордэна Брытанскай імперыі. Як навуковец вядомы чатырнаццацітомным даследаваннем «Гісторыя Савецкай Расіі», якое змяшчае ўсебаковую ацэнку савецкай гісторыі з 1917 па 1929 года, за даследаванні міжнародных адносін і за кнігу «Што такое гісторыя?», якая выйшла ў 1961 годзе.
