Джордж Уільям Уілер (англ.: George C. Wheeler, 1897 год — 1991 год) — буйны амерыканскі мірмеколаг, энтамолаг, прафесар, працаваў у Сіракузскім універсітэце, Універсітэце Паўночнай Дакоты  (руск.) (бел., Універсітэце Невады ў Рына  (руск.) (бел., найбуйнейшы ў свеце спецыяліст па лічынках мурашак[3].

Біяграфія[правіць | правіць зыходнік]

Нарадзіўся ў 1897 годзе. Навучаўся ва Універсітэце Райса  (руск.) (бел. ў штаце Тэхас (ЗША), працаваў пад кіраўніцтвам буйнога амерыканскага біёлага Джуліяна Хакслі і будучага нобелеўскага лаўрэата прафесара Германа Джозефа Мёлера. У 1918 годзе атрымаў ступень бакалаўра, пасля чаго быў прыняты ў Інстытут Басі  (англ.) (бел. пры Гарвардскім універсітэце (Кембрыдж, штат Масачусетс). Ён вывучаў энтамалогію і ў 1920 годзе атрымаў ступень магістра навук, а ў 1921 годзе — ступень доктара навук (Ph..D)[3].

Атрымаўшы доктарскую ступень па энтамалогіі, Уілер з 1921 па 1926 гады працаваў інструктарам і дацэнтам у Сіракузскім універсітэце ў горадзе Сірак’юсе (штат Нью-Ёрк). Пасля гэтага ён далучыўся да Універсітэта Паўночнай Дакоты  (руск.) (бел., дзе ён працягваў працаваць на працягу ўсёй сваёй кар’еры, займаючы такія пасады, як прафесар біялогіі (1926—1965), загадчык кафедры біялогіі (1926—1963) і прафесар універсітэта[3].

Уілер пачаў вывучаць мурашак на даследчай станцыі вострава Бара Каларада  (англ.) (бел. ў Панамскім канале ў 1924 годзе, куды яго запрасіў Уільям Мортан Уілер  (руск.) (бел., які навучаў яго ў Гарвардзе разам з Чарльзам Томасам Брусам  (англ.) (бел.. Ён шмат працаваў над аналізам марфалогіі і таксанаміі лічынак мурашак, а таксама вывучаў мурашак Паўночнай Дакоты і пустыні[3].
