Яго Святасць Далай-лама XIV (Нгагванг Ловзанг Тэнцзин Гьямцхо; нар. 6 ліпеня 1935) — духоўны лідар будыстаў Тыбета, Манголіі, Бураціі, Тывы, Калмыкіі, і інш.. Лаўрэат Нобелеўскай прэміі міру (1989). У 2006 годзе ўзнагароджаны вышэйшай узнагародай ЗША - Залатым медалём Кангрэса.

Адукацыя

Далай-лама навучаўся з шасці да дваццаці пяці гадоў, каб атрымаць вышэйшую навуковую ступень гешэ-лхарамба («доктара будыйскай філасофіі»). Ва ўзросце дваццаці чатырох гадоў ён здаў папярэднія іспыты ў трох галоўных манастырскіх універсітэтах Тыбету: Дрэпунге, Сэрэ і Гандэне. Заключныя экзамены прайшлі ў галоўным храме Лхаса падчас штогадовага малітоўнага свята (манлама) зімой 1959 года. Раніцай у экзаменацыйны дзень Далай-лама здаваў іспыты па логіцы трыццаці навукоўцам. У другой палове дня ён удзельнічаў у філасофскім дыспуце з пятнаццаццю навукоўцамі. Увечары трыццаць пяць навукоўцаў экзаменавалі яго па пытаннях манаскай дысцыпліны і метафізікі. Далай-лама бліскуча здаў усе экзамены ў прысутнасці больш за 20 000 навукоўцаў-манахаў і атрымаў званне гешэ-лхарамбы.
